The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers were greatly saddened by the sudden passing of Fr. John Geitner M.M. Fr John spent almost all of his 64 plus years as a Maryknoll priest involved in the area of education. Both in Maryknoll seminaries in the USA and in Maryknoll Schools in Hong Kong, he was a man dedicated to the education of young people. When he wasn’t involved in education or parish work, he was involved in Justice and Peace work. Fr. John was committed to not only educating future generations, but also making the world a better and more just place for all.
As we remember Fr. John Geitner in the days, weeks, and years to come; it would very appropriate for all of us to recommit ourselves to better education for our youth and to a more just society. Let us pray that all of us who learned from Fr. Geitner’s wonderful example can strive to be better citizens of the world in which we live.
